PRO-40 PBS 2 vs PRO-40 PBS beveller – what’s new?
The PROMOTECH PRO-40 PBS 2 is designed for precise, controlled, and repeatable machining of carbon and stainless steel pipes. Built on the proven heavy-duty DNA of the PRO-40 PBS, the second-generation PRO-40 PBS 2 pipe beveller introduces several practical upgrades that enhance productivity and operator convenience:
- Built-in chain positioning arms
- More powerful 3 phase motor (2200W vs 1500W)
- Optional pneumatic air cooling
Below is a more detailed look at what’s new in PRO-40 PBS 2 compared to PRO-40 PBS, plus a quick, useful overview of what that machine can do in general.

1) Built-in chain positioning arms
The introduction of built-in positioning arms is a clear upgrade in terms of both productivity and ease of use. They significantly reduce setup time — especially when working with large-diameter pipes, where the traditional “rotate and check” positioning process can consume valuable time and increase operational costs.

The specially designed arms allow for quick and accurate positioning of the chain on the pipe, ensuring proper alignment before machining begins. They improve precision, reduce preparation time, operator’s fatigue and frustration. This solution is applicable for pipes with a minimum OD of 540 mm.

2) More powerful 3‑phase motor
One of the biggest functional differences between this two generations is the move from a single-phase drive with 1500W to a three‑phase motor with 2200W.
PROMOTECH PRO-40 PBS 2 is designed for a 3‑phase power supply: 3×400 V or 3×480 V, 50/60 Hz with a spindle power of 2200 W. It allows more efficient machining under load and better productivity. Higher motor efficiency class IE3 directly translates also into lower energy consumption.

Many fabrication shops already run their operations on three‑phase, so PRO- PBS 2 with its 3-phase power supply fits that environment better and helps avoid mistakes and misconnections.
The 3-phase power supply of the PROMOTECH PRO-40 PBS 2 not only provides a significant increase in power, but also creates additional space to accommodate an optional pneumatic air-cooling system. This air-cooling option is available exclusively for the PRO-40 PBS 2 and is not compatible with the previous PRO-40 PBS model.
3) Optional air-cooling assembly
For operations involving longer machining cycles and harder materials, the optional air-cooling system represents one of the most practical upgrades available.
The PRO-40 PBS 2 is equipped with a pneumatic connection and integrated pressure regulator that enables the installation of an optional air-cooling assembly. When activated, compressed air is directed onto the milling head and cutting zone, reducing the temperature of the machined edge and the area around the cutting inserts. After connecting the compressed air supply, the recommended pressure setting on the regulator is 0.2–0.6 MPa.

This cooling effect can extend insert lifetime by up to 50%, reducing tool-change frequency and minimizing downtime. In addition, the airflow enhances chip evacuation, ensuring smoother chip removal and helping keep the cutting zone cleaner and safer during operation.
Customers can purchase the PROMOTECH PRO-40 PBS 2 factory-equipped with the air-cooling system, or add it later.

The PROMOTECH PRO40 PBS2 is a cost-effective, heavy-duty pipe bevelling solution that delivers reliable fit-up and significantly reduces rework. By providing a controlled and repeatable pipe-end preparation, it minimizes the “skill gap” between operators and makes the results easier to standardize across shifts.
Equipped with a high-speed rotary milling head and replaceable inserts, PRO-40 PBS 2 delivers fast, accurate machining. Cold milling eliminates heat-affected zones (HAZ) and minimizes the risk of distortion.
Engineered for demanding industrial environments, the PRO-40 PBS 2 is ideally suited for large-scale projects in the oil & gas, shipbuilding, and power generation sectors.

One machine — without switching between tools — for:
- External pipe diameter range:
200-1016 mm for pipes longer than 830 mm
200-600 mm for pipes 400-830 mm long
- Bevel angle range: 0° to 60°
- Max ID bevel width: 5 mm – standard, up to 20 mm – option
- Max OD bevel width : 45mm
- Pipe-end facing: End squaring and surface clean-up for accurate fit-up
- Feed rate: 100-1100 mm/min
- Spindle rotational speed: 1400 rpm (for 50 Hz), 1680 rpm (for 60 Hz)

Optional accessories
With optional heads & attachments capabilities of PRO-40 PBS2 can be further expanded to produce “J” bevels with 6 mm or 8 mm radius and to bevel oval pipes.

For heavy-duty applications, optional steel support rollers increase the load capacity to 5,000 kg per support, enabling the machining of pipes weighing up to 10 tonnes!

To machine stainless steel pipes weighing up to 6,000 kg, replace two standard passive-support rollers with the optional stainless-steel kit made from materials that prevent contamination. Use only the chain and clamping unit supplied with the stainless-steel kit.

PROMOTECH PRO-40 PBS 2 enables accurate weld preparation in the production of large-scale welded structures, including industrial tanks, silos, storage vessels, piping systems, and fully customized solutions. It means less variation between operators, fewer “touch-ups,” and more confidence that the joint prep matches the WPS requirements.
