The PROMOTECH ABM-R5 Auto-Feed Radius Bevelling Machine is a new addition to our portfolio of steel plate and profile edge preparation solutions. It is a practical choice for fabricators who need repeatable radius milling and bevelling in a compact, self-propelled machine.


ABM-R5 is designed to round the top and bottom edges of steel plates and profiles with radii of R2, R3, R4, or R5.. By producing a repeatable, uniform radii the machine makes parts safer to handle, and helps prepare plates and profiles for downstream welding, coating, and assembly.

In practice, this means the PROMOTECH ABM-R5 helps deliver cleaner edge quality, better process consistency, and improved readiness for further production steps. Moreover, ABM-R5 also enables straight bevels with a maximum width of 6 mm at 45 degrees on the upper and bottom edges and 6 mm at 30 degrees on the upper edge of the workpiece.
The milling head position can be easily adjusted with an accuracy of 0.1 mm, enabling operators to set the required geometry quickly and precisely.

Thanks to its self-propelled auto-feed system and 4-wheel drive with magnetic traction, the ABM-R5 Auto-feed radius beveller moves directly along the workpiece and does not require a guide track. It produces high-quality results without thermal distortion and without creating a heat-affected zone (HAZ), which is especially important in demanding fabrication environments where edge quality directly affects downstream welding and finishing operations.

ABM-R5 application
Radius milling of the upper edge
ABM-R5 creates a uniform rounding of the upper edge with radii of 2, 3, 4, or 5 mm. It is suitable for workpieces with a minimum thickness of 8 mm and a minimum width of 150 mm, such as I-beam flanges.

Radius milling of the bottom edge
ABM-R5 can also produce bottom-edge radii of R2, R3, R4, or R5. In this configuration, the maximum workpiece thickness is 30 mm, while the minimum width remains 150 mm.
Bevelling of the upper edge at 45 degrees
As for bevelling, the ABM-R5 produces bevels up to 6 mm wide at 45 degrees on the upper edge. Minimum workpiece thickness is 8 mm and width 30mm.
Optional milling heads further extend the machine’s capabilities and allows users to configure the machine to match specific application and production requirements.

Bevelling of the upper edge at 30 degrees (option)
With an optional milling head, ABM-R5 creates up to 6 mm bevels at 30 degrees, adding even more flexibility for various weld preparation requirements. Minimum workpiece thickness is 8 mm and width 30mm.
Bevelling of the bottom edge at 45 degrees (option)
Using an optional 45-degree milling head, the ABM-R5 can machine bottom-edge bevels up to 6 mm wide at 45 degrees. In this application, the maximum workpiece thickness is 30 mm.

Stable auto-feed travel with smart overload control
The ABM-R5 moves from left to right along the workpiece at a stable speed of up to 2.0 m/min. Milling starts 200 mm from the left edge of the workpiece and ends 20 mm before the end of the plate. At the end of the operation, the machine automatically stops and retracts, keeping the milling head away from the material. This “automatic stop and retraction” function helps reduce unnecessary tool wear, minimizes the risk of accidental damage to the workpiece, and prevents unwanted contact once machining is complete.
